ウメヤンは、晩酌は「焼酎お湯割り二杯」ということにしている。
ということにしている――というのは変な言い方だが、といういうことにしておくことで、そうなっていく。これがこの田舎の不思議なところだ。
この独特な言い回しは、とかく形式的なことが重んじられる田舎の性質と関係しているだろう。重んじられるがゆえに、責任をどこか別のところにおいて、あけらかんとする。そういう余裕を持たせておかないと、物事は前を向いて進んでいかない。しかし転がり始めれば、計画していたよりもきちんと進んでいく。
残した祭りよりも残った祭りの方。表象されていく。その、あり方が。
ウメヤンの晩酌は、とはいえ、しょせん、ということにしているだけのことなので、ときどき羽目が外れる。そうなると「それ後は、エンドレスよ」と、こうなる。
酒を呑むのは、愉しいことだから。

Ume-yan often says "a couple of glass of Shochu with hot water every night- let's just say so".
The way he says -let's just say so- may sounds strange, but when you let things be so, they gradually become so. This is like a charm of this country side.
This distinctive way of saying may be something to do with a character of this countryside, which attaches a high value to something ritual. As people have a great regard for ritualistic behavior, they put their responsibilities somewhere else, and behave indifferently. Allowing this kind of sense, things work, and once things start working, they would normally do better than originally planned.
The traditional autumn festival of this area could be a good example; it is the one which is naturally carried down, not preserved with a big effort. The way it exists has been and will be represented.
Coming back to Ume-yan's Shochu, he sometimes breaks out of bounds after all. When it happens, he says "well then, my drinking is endless". Yes, getting a drink is something pleasant.
